So I’m making this article to tell you all you really need to know about a floor.

A floor is the surface of a room that you walk on. Floors vary from simple dirt in a cave to many-layered surfaces modern technology. Floors may be made out of stone, wood, bamboo, metal or any other material that can support the expected load. Sometimes you would hear people call it as levels, well you need to know that the correct term is actually that the levels of a building are referred as floors. It has a more proper term – storey (not “story”, as it is often mistaken as).

Floor covering is a term to generically describe any finishing material applied over a floor structure. This is important for you to know because floor covering provides a walking surface. Flooring is the general term for a permanent covering of a floor, or for the work of installing such a floor covering. Both terms are used interchangeably but floor covering refers more to loose-laid materials.

There are many kinds of materials that are commonly called flooring, but all you need to know strictly includes wood, laminated wood, ceramic tile, granite tile, stone, terrazzo, and various seamless chemical floor coatings.

The choice of material for floor covering is affected by factors such as cost, endurance, noise insulation, comfort and cleaning effort. You need to know that some types of flooring must not be installed below grade (lower than ground level). Other thing you need to know about a floor is that the choice of laminating a floor or using hardwood should be avoided where there may be moisture or condensation.
